Every light we carry here finds its way further than these pages.
The Lantern exists alongside The Mission to End Leprosy, and every step you take here, quietly and without fanfare, becomes part of a much longer walk toward healing.
Why leprosy matters
Leprosy is one of the oldest diseases we know of, and one of the most misunderstood. It is entirely curable, and has been for decades, yet it still carries a weight of stigma that often outlasts the illness itself. People affected by it are sometimes turned away long after they have been treated, simply because fear travels faster than facts.
This is where the heart of the work sits. Not only in curing the disease, but in restoring what the disease so often takes first, which is a person's place among their own community.
[Ken, this is a good spot for a short personal reflection from you, on why this cause took hold of you in the first place. Even two or three sentences in your own voice would sit beautifully here.]
What the mission does
The work happens gently and steadily, often one household at a time.
- Going door to door across communities where leprosy is still present, so that no one has to come forward alone or ask for help before it's offered.
- Diagnosing early, because the earlier leprosy is found, the less damage it does and the less stigma takes root.
- Treating and curing, using the same multidrug therapy that has cured millions of people worldwide.
- Preventing further spread, through education and simple, practical care for those closest to someone newly diagnosed.
It is patient work. It asks for trust before it asks for anything else.
Impact so far
[1,300 people discovered and cured in the pilot region — figure to be verified as current before this goes live. Ken, could you confirm this is still accurate, or send through an updated number if there's a more recent one to hand?]
Every number here represents someone who can go home, back to their family, their work, their place at the table, without needing to explain themselves or hide.
[Space here for one or two further impact figures if you have them to hand, such as households reached, regions covered, or years the mission has been active.]
Stories from the field
[This section is left as a placeholder for now. If you or Marina have a story or two from the field, even a short one, this is where it would land best. A single honest story tends to carry more weight here than a page of statistics, so even a few sentences from someone directly involved would be wonderful.]
How The Lantern supports this work
The Lantern was never meant to sit apart from this mission. It grew out of it.
All proceeds from The Lantern, after the modest costs of running it, go directly to supporting The Mission to End Leprosy. Whether someone joins Spark for free or steps further along the pathway toward Shepherd's Flame, their presence here helps keep this work going in the field.
[Placement note for the team: the fuller founding story from Receiving the Light, the section specifically describing The Lantern's relationship with TMTEL, belongs here rather than on the About page, per our earlier placement decision.]
Donate
However you're able to give, whether that's a one-off gift or a small monthly commitment, it goes toward finding people early, treating them well, and helping them return fully to the lives they already belong to.
